HRAA St Ives Gardening Club Evening Meetings Programme 2024
All meetings are normally held in the URC Free Church St Ives from 7.30 pm Members of neighbouring gardening clubs are welcome to all our evening meetings except our AGM and at no charge. Raffles are held at our Fun Quiz night and 5 guest speaker evenings.
HRAA St Ives (Cambridgeshire) Gardening Club Programme 2024 Wednesday 17th January: Our ‘Annual Fun Quiz Night’ returns. Teams of 4 to 6 people engaging in a little bit of light-hearted fun and banter. Wednesday 21st February: St Ives very own Keith Grimwade A new speaker for us, but not other St Ives groups, whose talk ’Where did my garden come from’ will explore why some people’s gardens are hard to dig whilst others are so easy. Saturday 2nd March: 10.00 for 10.15 Heath Fruit Farm: Rob Bousfield will be giving an on site talk on the history of the Orchard, managing an orchard today and into the future. Then a demonstration of pruning Apples, Pears and Apricots, the latter hopefully in flower. Final details in late January. Wednesday 20th March: Hopefully Roy Nunn will be okay this month, an amateur gardener from Cambridge will give an insight into ‘The Gardens of Madeira’. His presentation will also include a video. Wednesday 17th April:Buckden Towers History & Elizabethan Knot Garden, A slice of history and the reconstruction of this garden. A talk by 3 of the Buckden Towers volunteers. Followed by visit Saturday 1st June 11.00am. Details will be provided in due course. Wednesday 15th May: Another new face for us, Dr Ian Bedford His illustrated talk ‘Companion Planting for a Balanced Garden’ explores how companion planting can help in keeping unwanted insects at bay. Wednesday 19th June: Gardener’s Question Time – An opportunity to discuss issues, points of interest and generally seek gardening advice. Saturday 6th July: Annual Garden Visit – Royal Botanic Gardens Kew. Details will be circulated in January 2024, keep the date. Summer Break Wednesday 18th September: Neil Callan from the outskirts of Somersham will give a talk on his garden construction in the middle of rural Cambridge ‘‘From Crowbar to Crocosmia: The Making of a Fenland Garden.’’
Wednesday 16th October: Annual General Meeting followed by some photos of a few gardens Jo and I have visited over the years. Wednesday 20th November: Gillian Bartrum, a new club member will be giving us an illustrated talk ‘The Flora and Fauna of Puerto Rico’.
Wednesday 11th December: Our Christmas Craft Evening and Soiree, Please note the second week of December not the third
